Middle School Speech Team Shines in Season Opening Invitationals

Congratulations to our Middle School Speech Team, the Jr. Yakking Raiders. The team has been hard at work preparing to open the competition season on April 5 at Creighton Prep in excellent fashion. BT finished the team sweepstakes with 296 points, well ahead of the St. Pius/St. Leo (224) and Millard North MS (172). Individual honors went to the following students.

  • Declamation: Nishan Jacob, ’30 (3rd)
  • Duet Acting: Jasmine Nlam, ’28, and Leilani Thomas, ’28 (2nd)
  • Entertainment/Informative: Anoushka Jacob, ’28 (1st), Igby Summers, ’28,(2nd), Jameson Conner-Carlisle, ’28 (3rd)
  • Extemporaneous Speaking: Nadia Jeyaram, ’28 (1st), Emme Bartel, ’29 (3rd), Ananya Deshmukh, ’29 (4th), Hunter Khoury, ’28 (5th)
  • Humorous Interpretation: Miranda Clark, ’29 (1st)
  • Impromptu Speaking: Jasmine Oppliger, ’28 (2nd)
  • Persuasive Speaking: Emerson Coulter, ’28 (1st), David Welch, ’28 (2nd), Adrishya Kumar, ’28 (3rd)
  • Poetry Interpretation: Ella Anderson, ’29 (4th), Carter Bell, ’28 (6th)

On April 12, the team traveled to Marian High School for the Jr. Crusader’s Invitational and came away with another big win, finishing the sweepstakes with 292 points, outpacing St. Pius/St. Leo (154) and Millard North Middle School (128). Individual (top 6) honors went to the following students:

  • Extemporaneous Speaking: Nadia Jeyaram (1st), Eli Shearer, ’28 (2nd), Ananya Deshmukh (3rd), Lara Blume (5th)
