March 25, 2020 - Like so many nonprofits in Omaha at this time, Brownell Talbot is adapting to best meet the changing needs of our students and families — needs we are seeing shaped by uncertainty, worry, and isolation as well as a strong desire to help not only our school community but the Omaha community as well.
After careful consideration, we have changed the date and direction of gala to provide immediate scholarship emergency funding and community support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The school will now host this year's fundraising event as a virtual gala beginning April 10 at 10:00 am ending on Monday, April 13 at 10:00 pm, with bidding and donor support taking place on brownell.edu/gala.
The event will continue to include many aspects of the in-person event you know and love: a welcome and celebration of our school from Dr. Gibbs, reflections from students, Silent and Live Auctions as well as a Raise the Paddle for immediate emergency tuition assistance and scholarships. The event will be hosted on the Brownell Talbot Facebook page with bidding happening on brownell.edu/gala through Monday evening. All current and future ticket holders will be invited to a Brownell Talbot, 68132 event in the fall where we will recognize the Gala Steering Committee, event sponsors, and the generosity of our community.
As an extension of the event, Brownell Talbot will donate up to 20% of the net proceeds from the event's Silent Auction to the following organizations who are serving impacted populations during the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Completely Kids
- Dundee Memorial Park Association Merchants Relief Fund
- Food Bank for the Heartland
- Youth Emergency Services
Our hope is that these changes will make an immediate difference for our school community and the community at large. I will continue to communicate how you can participate as we approach April 10. I sincerely appreciate your support in helping make this year's gala a success for so many people in need.
