Fall 2020 Athletics and Activities Protocols

Updates (September 14, 2020):

  • BT Middle School students may attend seventh and eighth grade home football games. 

The safety measures and guidelines detailed below are in place to limit potential exposure. When in Hybrid A distance learning, students are permitted to come to campus for practice on days when they are scheduled for distance learning. If a student is unable to attend practice because they were in distance learning, they will not be penalized for missing practice. All participation is voluntary.

Home Health Checks Required

All attendees including students, spectators, coaches, trainers, managers, and statisticians must complete the Home Health Check and be able to answer "no" to each question prior to coming onto school property or participating in athletics: 

  • Have you or anyone in your household had any of the following symptoms in the last three days: sore throat, cough, chills, body aches for unknown reasons, shortness of breath for unknown reasons, loss of smell, loss of taste, or fever at or greater than 100.4 degrees?
  • To the best of your knowledge, have you or anyone in your household been in close proximity* to any individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Have you or anyone in your household cared for an individual who is in quarantine, is presumptive positive, or has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Do you have any reason to believe you or anyone in your household has been exposed to or acquired COVID-19?

Face Coverings

Face coverings are required to be worn by all spectators, coaches, trainers, managers, and statisticians attending competitions. If you forget yours, Brownell Talbot will have some extras on hand. Check sport-specific guidelines below for face covering requirements specific to each sport.

Safety Measures

In addition to requiring face coverings, Brownell Talbot adheres to the following safety measures:

  • Social distance of six feet is encouraged at all times. Any spectator seating offered will be marked to support social distancing.
  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available for frequent use.
  • Attendance to competitions will be limited to adhere to capacity restrictions. 
  • Every player must use their own water bottle. No sharing of water bottles, towels, or personal equipment.

  • Players must wear masks on sidelines and when receiving coaching instruction.
  • Masks are encouraged but not required when competing and warming up.
Spectators

The following are allowed to attend games:

  • Brownell Talbot students in grades 9-12.
  • Brownell Talbot football players, cheerleaders, and coaches listed on the varsity roster may have immediate family members attend, which includes parents, siblings, and grandparents.
  • When Brownell Talbot students are being recognized, for example on Senior Night, immediate family members may attend.
  • Brownell Talbot faculty and staff and their immediate families may attend.
  • Brownell Talbot cheerleaders.
  • The visiting school football players, coaches, and managers listed on the roster may each bring a maximum of TWO guests to the game.
  • BT Middle School students are permitted to attend Middle School home football games.

Brownell Talbot's pep band will not perform at athletic competitions this year. The visiting school cannot bring cheerleaders or a pep band. 

The bleachers on the west side of the field are marked to indicate where spectators can sit, accounting for social distancing. Visiting school spectators may bring folding chairs if they wish to sit in the marked grass areas around the football field.

Spectators should adhere to social distancing of six feet. Family groups may sit together with less than the required physical distance, but six feet of distance should exist between groups.Concessions

A limited concessions menu of prepackaged food and drinks will be available for purchase and consumption outdoors. The concessions stand is located by St. Matthias Chapel near the football field. Spectators may pull masks down to eat or drink as long as they sit in their family group and are adhering to six-feet social distance from other groups.

Volleyball

Player Face Coverings
  • Players must wear face coverings on sidelines, when receiving coaching instruction, and when competing and warming up.
  • Masks may be pulled down for water breaks.
Player protocols
  • Pre-match and post-match handshake protocols are prohibited.
  • Teams will NOT switch benches/courts between sets.
  • For triangulars, benches will be sanitized between matches before the next team uses them.
Locker Rooms
  • Visiting teams should come to BT dressed and ready to compete. 
Equipment
  • Visiting teams should bring their own balls for warm-up. 
Spectators

The following are allowed to attend games:

  • Each player suiting up for the night and all volleyball coaches may have a maximum of THREE guests attend the contest. Visiting team guests must register via Google form to gain admission to the event.
  • When Brownell Talbot students are being recognized, for example on Senior Night, immediate family members including parents, siblings, and grandparents may attend.
  • A limited number of Upper School students - sign up with Activities Director Jeff Rohrig to reserve a spot. 

The visiting school cannot bring cheerleaders or a pep band. 

Spectators can only be in the gym while their school is playing. Spectators should adhere to social distancing of six feet. Family groups may sit together with less than the required physical distance, but six feet of distance should exist between groups. 

Designated Entrances and Exits

All spectators will enter the gymnasium at the marked entrance, which is the double doors near the concession stand. All spectators will exit through the marked exit, which is the double doors located by the fitness center.

Concessions

Concessions will be available outdoors and offering prepackaged food and drinks for purchase and consumption outside.
