On Friday, December 15, seventh grade students will take a field trip to the state capitol where they will have an opportunity to speak to a representative from each branch and then participate in a mock hearing where select students will share testimony on LB947, a current bill in legislature regarding immigration in Nebraska, and experience how a hearing on a legislative bill works.
This field trip is the culminating activity in cross-curricular studies, coordinated by Mrs. Angie Vetter, regarding immigration. In English, the students have been reading A Long Walk to Water and learning about immigration in the United States. They have read articles that inform on all sides of this issue. In writing lab, the students will begin the process this week of writing testimony for legislature on immigration. They will learn what is expected, what should be included, and how to format this style of writing. The students will then write their own testimony on LB947.
