September Is Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention month. According to the Centers for Disease Control, Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-34. As Brownell Talbot hopes to foster a compassionate community of learners, it is our aim to educate and empower our students to check in with themselves and reach out to others in times of need. Over the next few weeks, Mrs. Tessin, Mrs. Beaner and Mrs. Vander Vorst will be handing out bendeez fidget toys to students in grades 5-12, which will serve as a tangible reminder to families to continue the conversation about suicide prevention and mental health at home.

The bendeez have the suicide prevention lifeline number printed on it (800-273-8255) as well as the website to the Kim Foundation (13minutes.org). The Kim Foundation is a phenomenal local resource that BT has partnered with in the past to educate our community about suicide prevention.

As a reminder, Brownell Talbot has a partnership with Arbor Family Counseling; students and family members of students are welcome to participate in the student assistance program.
