Welcome to my website! I just love being a Brownell Talbot Raider!
Brownell Talbot is such a warm and welcoming school.
This is a school that has such unique offerings and a special environment. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the B-T family. The program at BT and the beautiful Swanson Auditorium make this school particularly exciting. It is difficult for young people to grow up today, much more so than when I was an adolescent. The fact that Brownell-Talbot has a committment to character education is a real stand out quality and one of the reasons I chose to pursue a career here. I know that the students and I will have a great time creating and learning in the coming school year.
I am a graduate of Dana College. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Language Arts and English. I have done graduate work in Shakespeare and Theater at the Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury College and Georgetown University. I have worked with Shakespeare on the Green in Omaha and other local theaters as well. I have been teaching for 18 years, the last 6 iat Brownell Talbot.
I have received two National Endowment for the Humanities Grants; one in 1994 and the other in 2001. Both of these grants allowed me to create bonds with other drama teachers across the country. I also worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. and you can find lesson plans created by me at the Folger website, folger.edu.
I have an active family and hobby life. My children and I spend a lot of time at the family farm just North of Omaha in Ponca Hills. Summer days are spent 'touring' Omaha. We love the city parks, the zoo, Children's museum and the Durham Western Heritage museum. The Becker clan is active camping and hiking enthusiasts; so we travel to any near by National Park at least once a summer.
Brownell Talbot is a great fit for me and a wonderful place for students as well. Make it a great school year!
