Posted 04/24/2012 09:49AM

DISTRICT MUSIC
The Brownell-Talbot jazz bands and choir earned unanimous "superior" ratings at the District Music Contest in Yutan on Friday for the first time in school history.

WORLD ROBOTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last weekend the B-T Robotics teams participated in the VEX Robotics World Championships. Four-hundred teams from all over the world competed.

Team 1028 (junior Briana Simusa, senior Britt Fossum, and freshman Lauren Zimmerman) competed in the math division. The team went 5-4-1 in the qualifying matches with many close matches and was paired with and against many of the teams that eventually made it to the divisional finals. The robot had no mechanical failures, but team members made some strategic changes to the autonomous programming as the matches went on. They were also able to help other teams by allowing them to borrow tools and a motor. Team 1028 finished the tournament ranked 36 among 100 teams.

Team 1028D (Joshua, Nathaniel, Zoe and Christina) competed in the technology division. The team went 7-3 in matches. One loss would have been a win, but they missed the doubler barrel in the last 5 seconds of the match. Team 1028D finished the tournament ranked 23 among 100 teams. The team was partners with more than half the teams that were chosen for the division finals, but unfortunately were not chosen. Their robot performed perfectly the entire tournament. They had no mechanical failures and made only a slight change to the autonomous programming.

Both teams peaked at the end of the season and took their wins and losses in stride. They were gracious in victory and defeat. Raider Team mascot Reid Rise did everything he could do to make new alliances with teams from all over the country and the world. He visited all other teams' booths and collected pins, trinkets, and buttons.
