Strings
Brownell-Talbot offers instruction
in orchestral string instruments to students in grades 5-12. The string
orchestra performs music from all genres, including classical, pop, folk, and
world music. Instruction begins in fifth grade, but it is required that
students wishing to participate should have at least a year of private
instruction before joining strings at school.
There are many performance
opportunities for strings students at Brownell-Talbot. The strings program at
Brownell-Talbot performs a concert at the end of each semester. Many of
Brownell- Talbot’s string students also perform in the Omaha Area Youth
Orchestra and compete in music festivals and contests.
Instruction in 5th and 6th
grade focuses on the fundamentals of musicianship. In 7th through 12th
grade instruction expands to include basic elements of music theory and
history. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in music
festivals as soloists and small ensembles. Beginning in 10th grade
students are eligible to audition for All-State Orchestra and other honor
orchestras.
