9th-12th ACTIVITIES
Varsity Level
Varsity participation involves rigorous competition and an intensive commitment to training, practices and games. A starting position on a team is an earned privilege based on demonstrated readiness for competition as assessed by the coach. Individual and team success is a by-product of character, commitment, practice, effort and teamwork. Coaching strategy focused on team competitiveness determines individual playing time. Playing time is not guaranteed.
Junior Varsity Level
The Junior Varsity level allows a student athlete to develop skills and increase knowledge of the competitive game situation with the goal to play at the varsity level at a future date. If a student is healthy, has been attending practice, and displays a positive attitude, he or she will play in contests although the amount of playing time is not guaranteed.
Reserve Level
From time-to-time, the numbers of students participating in a sport may be greater than the maximum number of team members on the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams or the numbers of participants exceed the number that coaches can properly instruct and safely supervise. Depending on the sport, those students not placed on a Varsity or JV team may participate at the Reserve Level if available.
The athletes participating at the Reserve level will be afforded opportunities to increase their knowledge of the sport and individual skill level, although they may not participate in any athletic competitions. If a Reserve Level is not available for a particular sport, the student may be encouraged to try another sport or to further develop their skills and try again to make the team during the following year.
