Upper School Uniform

BOYS - FORMAL DRESS*

Shirt: Traditional white oxford cloth dress shirt.

Pants: Solid gray dress pants (single stitched side seam). Belts are required.

Coat, Tie, and Shoes: Traditional navy blazer, necktie, dark socks, and black or brown leather dress shoes. A traditional navy sweater (v-neck or crewneck only) may be worn under the blazer on formal dress days.

GIRLS - FORMAL DRESS*

Blouse: Traditional white oxford cloth blouse.

Skirt: Brownell-Talbot plaid skirt purchased from Dennis Uniform Co. or Educational Outfitters.

Blazer, Hosiery, Shoes: Traditional navy blazer, solid navy knee-high socks, tights, or nylons, and black or brown leather dress shoes. A traditional navy sweater (v-neck or crewneck only) may be worn under the blazer on formal dress days. School approved scarves, in individual House colors, may be worn as part of the formal and regular uniform.

*Formal Dress: Formal dress is to be worn on scheduled or announced formal dress days or during special School events. Formal dress day begins the first Tuesday of the school year and continues every Tuesday thereafter.

BOYS - REGULAR SCHOOL DRESS

Shirts: A collared shirt is required as part of the daily uniform. Solid white or light blue long or short sleeve traditional button-down oxford cloth dress shirts or a polo shirt with the Brownell-Talbot logo in white, banded white, or dark green purchased from Dennis Uniform Co., Educational Outfitters, or Lands’ End. Seniors may purchase the black shirt option from Dennis Uniform or Educational Outfitters. Any undershirts worn under a School uniform shirt must be a solid color (white preferred) and not display any writing or logo that is visible through the uniform shirt. ALL non-banded shirts must be tucked into pants and shorts.

Pants: Traditional solid gray, khaki, or navy pants or shorts. (No cargo-style pants.) Belts are required for all pants.

Sweaters: Traditional solid navy or gray long-sleeve crewneck or v-neck single knit pullover sweater.

Sweatshirts: Any official Brownell-Talbot School sweatshirt sold by B-T or the Boosters.

• Any official Brownell-Talbot sweatshirt with a School imprint may be worn over the required collared shirt/blouse.

Shoes/Socks: Shoes — see below; Solid white, navy, gray, or black socks.

GIRLS - REGULAR SCHOOL DRESS

Blouses: A collared shirt/blouse is required as part of the daily uniform. Solid white or light blue long or short sleeve traditional button-down oxford cloth dress shirts or a Brownell-Talbot polo shirt in white, banded white, or dark green purchased from Dennis Uniform Co., Educational Outfitters, or Lands’ End. Seniors may purchase the black shirt option from Dennis Uniform or Educational Outfitters. Any undershirts worn under a School uniform shirt must be a solid color (white preferred) and not display any writing or logo that is visible through the uniform shirt. ALL non-banded shirts must be tucked into pants, skirts, or shorts.

Skirts: Brownell-Talbot plaid or solid navy skirt. Navy gabardine skirt or skorts from Dennis Uniform Co., Lands End (plaid not available), or Educational Outfitters are acceptable. Skirts /skorts must be an appropriate length which demonstrates a modest appearance.

Slacks: Traditional navy or khaki plain front or pleated slacks may be worn during the second and third quarters except on formal uniform days. (No cargo-style pants.)

Sweaters: Traditional solid navy or red long-sleeve crewneck or v-neck single knit pullover sweater.

Sweatshirts: Any official Brownell-Talbot School sweatshirt sold by B-T or the Boosters.

• Any official Brownell-Talbot sweatshirt with a School imprint may be worn over the required collared shirt/blouse.

Shoes/Socks: Shoes — see below. If worn, socks, tights, or nylons must be solid white, black, or navy colored (no patterns). School approved socks, in individual House colors/styles, may be worn on designated days as part of the regular uniform.

BOYS AND GIRLS REGULAR SCHOOL DRESS

Shoes: Brown or black leather shoes of the traditional lace-up or loafer design are acceptable. Sandals and athletic-tennis shoes of any color, or open-toed shoes are not allowed. Boots may be allowed by announcement during inclement weather.

Optional Warm Weather Wear: Traditional Bermuda style navy or khaki shorts (no cargo-style shorts) must be purchased from Dennis Uniform Co., Educational Outfitters, or Lands’ End, and may be worn during August, September, May, and June. The shorts are to be worn with the uniform shirt and School approved socks.

Outerwear: All outerwear is to be stored in the student’s locker during the school day. Coats and jackets are not to be worn in the classroom, lunchroom, or study halls. Students may wear a coat between buildings.

Clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair. Items of apparel or accessories not included in the official description of the dress requirements as stated above are not allowed. This includes oversize clothing or styles of clothing that do not fit properly. All clothing should be tagged with the student’s name.

Any decision regarding the acceptability of School uniform items will be at the sole discretion of the School administration.

Middle School Uniform

BOYS - FORMAL DRESS*

Skirt: Brownell-Talbot plaid skirt purchased from Dennis Uniform Co. or Educational Outfitters.

Blazer/Sweater, Hosiery, Shoes: Traditional solid color long-sleeve navy sweater or traditional navy blazer, solid navy knee-high socks, navy tights, and black or brown leather dress shoes.

Sweaters: Traditional solid navy, long-sleeve, single knit pullover sweater, either crewneck or v-neck. Dark green sweatshirt or fleece jacket available at Dennis Uniform Co. or Lands’ End with Brownell-Talbot imprint.

Sweatshirts: Solid navy or gray sweatshirt with Brownell-Talbot imprint sold in the B-T Bookstore.

Shoes/Socks: Shoes — see below; Solid white, navy, gray, or black socks.

Any undershirt or turtleneck worn under a School uniform shirt must be solid white and not display any writing or logo that is visible through the uniform shirt. ALL shirts must be tucked in at all times during the school day.

Skirts: Brownell-Talbot plaid or solid navy skirt or a navy twill skort purchased from Dennis Uniform Co. or Educational Outfitters. Skirts /skorts must be an appropriate length which demonstrates a modest appearance.

Slacks: Traditional navy dress slacks may be worn during the second and third quarters except on formal uniform days.

Sweaters: Traditional solid navy, long-sleeve, single knit pullover sweater or cardigan, either crewneck or v-neck. Dark green sweatshirt or fleece jacket available at Dennis Uniform Co. or Lands’ End with Brownell-Talbot imprint.

Sweatshirts: Solid navy blue or gray sweatshirt with Brownell-Talbot imprint sold in the B-T Bookstore.

Shoes/Socks: Shoes — see below. If worn, socks or tights must be solid white or navy (no patterns).

BOYS AND GIRLS REGULAR SCHOOL DRESS

Shoes: Traditional leather shoes in black or brown are acceptable. Not acceptable are open-toe or open- back.

Optional Warm Weather Wear: Bermuda style navy shorts may be worn during August, September, May, and June. The shorts are to be worn with the uniform shirt.

Outerwear: Coats and jackets may not be worn in the classroom, lunchroom, or study halls. Coats and jackets are to be stored in the student’s locker during the school day. On extremely cold days, students may be given permission to wear a coat between buildings. Letter jackets are reserved for Upper School students.

Clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair. All clothing should be tagged with the student’s name.

Lower School Uniform

BOYS — FORMAL DRESS*

Shirt: Solid white long or short-sleeve oxford dress shirt.

Pants: Solid navy pants (corduroy acceptable, but not denim). A dark belt must be worn if pants have belt hoops.

Sweater: Solid navy long-sleeve sweater (no monogramming). V-neck, crewneck, or cardigans are acceptable.

Shoes: Black or brown leather shoes and dark socks.

GIRLS — FORMAL DRESS*

Blouse: Solid white long or short-sleeve “peter pan” collar blouse.

Jumper: Brownell-Talbot plaid jumper purchased from Dennis Uniform Co. or Educational Outfitters.**

Hosiery: Solid white knee socks, tights, or anklets may be worn (no color designs or crew socks).

Shoes: Black, brown, or navy leather shoes. Shoes must have a flat heel.

Optional items for girls: Solid navy long-sleeve cardigan or pullover crewneck sweater (no monogramming).

*Formal Dress: Formal dress is to be worn on scheduled or announced formal dress days or during special School events. Formal

dress day begins the first Tuesday of the school year and continues every Tuesday thereafter.

** The Lower School does not require a physical education uniform. Therefore, to provide freedom of movement during gym class, girls are encouraged to wear solid navy shorts underneath their jumpers.

Shirt: Solid white or light blue long or short-sleeve dress shirt or polo jersey knit shirt with collar or turtleneck.

Pants: Solid navy pants (corduroy acceptable, but not denim). A dark belt must be worn if pants have belt hoops.

Sweater: Solid navy long-sleeve pullover or cardigan sweater, crewneck or v-neck (no monogramming) or navy Brownell-Talbot sweatshirt with School seal.

Shorts: Bermuda style navy shorts from Dennis Uniform Co., Educational Outfitters, or Land’s End may be worn in August, September, and May through the end of school. The shorts are to be worn with uniform shirt, shoes, and solid white socks.

Shoes/Socks: Black or brown leather shoes and black, navy or white socks.

GIRLS — REGULAR SCHOOL DRESS

Blouse/Shirt: Solid white or light blue long or short-sleeve blouse or jersey knit polo shirt with collar or turtleneck.

Jumper/Skort: Brownell-Talbot plaid jumper purchased from Dennis Uniform Co. or Educational Outfitters.**

Skort: Navy twill skort purchased from Dennis Uniform Co., Educational Outfitters, or Land’s End.

Pants: Solid navy pants (corduroy acceptable, but not denim). A dark belt must be worn if pants have belt hoops.

Sweater: Solid navy long-sleeve cardigan or pullover sweater, crewneck or v-neck (no monogramming) or navy Brownell-Talbot sweatshirt with School seal.

Shorts: Bermuda style navy shorts from Dennis Uniform Company may be worn in August, September, and May through the end of school. The shorts are to be worn with uniform shirt or blouse, shoes and solid white socks.

Socks/Tights: Solid navy or white knee socks, tights, or anklets may be worn (no color designs or crew socks). Solid navy uniform slacks or leggings may be worn under jumpers in cold weather.

Shoes: Black, brown or navy leather shoes. Shoes must have a flat heel.

BOYS AND GIRLS OUTERWEAR

The Lower School has no specified outer jacket or coat requirement. However, in keeping with the overall dress policy a solid-color coat or jacket is recommended.
