Technology

SmartBoard us in MS classroomCutting Edge

It is evident in every office, classroom, lab and library that Brownell-Talbot School is continually searching for technology to enhance its ability to provide and receive information that enhances our total education capabilities.

Implementing technology routinely and seamlessly into daily work is only made possible by constant updates in hardware, software and instruction.

It is not only the goal to provide cutting edge technology, but to make sure that the administration, faculty, students and parents are utilizing it to enhance all aspects of a Brownell-Talbot education. Brownell-Talbot is a wireless campus. The School provides each faculty member with a laptop. The Technology Director, in addition to maintaining all network systems, teaches computer classes at all school levels. A part-time tech support person provides assistance with repairs for both students and faculty.

Upper School students, grades nine through twelve, are required to purchase a laptop, which is to be used to enhance their instruction. Middle School teachers and students have access to a computer lab and two laptop mobile carts.

The high tech science labs provide opportunities for Upper School and Middle School teachers and students to gain information through a variety of technology-based access. Portable SmartBoards allow for classroom instruction of interactive web-based resources at all levels. Lower School classrooms include Internet accessible computers for student use. Alpha Smarts introduce keyboarding skills in the Lower School.

Brownell-Talbot uses technology literally to reach out for global educational opportunities. International real time videoconferences, on-line foreign language classes and Web pages that bring recognition to Brownell-Talbot have both enriched and challenged the students and faculty.

Computer Labs

LS Computer LabThere are two computer labs available at Brownell-Talbot. A Middle School Lab and Lower School lab allow for computer instruction and also provide teachers and students access for research and class assignments. The Middle School computer lab is available to Middle School students at 7:00 a.m. until school begins and again after school until 6:00 p.m.

Online Textbooks

Online textbooks are available for a variety of classes. Teachers will provide the students with instructions on how to access the texts if applicable to that course.

Online Courses

Online courses are made available in limited circumstances for courses not offered by the school. Administrator approval is required.

Student information system

Veracross is our Web-based student information system. Administrators get the most accurate information to make more effective decisions, and teachers gain timesaving administrative tools. Using a secure and confidential login, parents and students can access important information online in real time, including grades, attendance records, and assignments. They can also use the system to communicate directly with teachers via e-mail. In addition, parents can request automatic progress reports to be sent to them via e-mail.
