B-T Parents' Association: Minutes


MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, April 3, 2008

Present: Jane Hirz, Susan Dennis, Debbie Wood, Johanne Couture, Jodi Taylor, Kathy Bartels, Karen Burkley, Stefanie Martinez, Paula Smith, Michelle VanderWoude, Charlotte Conner, Julie Lasto, Leslie Allbery, Pam Roth, Margaux Towne-Colley, Kari DiNucci, Dianne Desler, Bill Harrell, Joel Bicknell, Kami Landenberger and Kara Meisinger.

Call to order: President Jane Hirz called the meeting to order. There are only 2 more meetings left this year. Also, please make sure your binders are back to Jane prior to the next meeting.

Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Julie Lasto to approve the minutes from the March 6, 2008 meeting; motion seconded by Pam Roth.

Treasurer’s Report: Jane Hirz reported for Suellen Willett. A motion was made by Julie Lasto to approve the budget; motion seconded by Michelle VanderWoude. Motion passed.

Julie Lasto also notes that a correction needs to be made for next year’s budget. The Spring Book Fair only collects 10% for Brownell-Talbot.

Headmaster’s Report: Miss Desler reported that there are several changes for next year’s uniform for the Upper and Middle school.

The last day of school will be Thursday, June 5th not Friday, June 5th

Also, please welcome Ann Rinaldi to the B-T Staff. She is the new assistant for Admissions.

Life-Tracks: Kara Meisinger reported that a Mad City Money Simulation Event would be set-up in the Field House. She will need 10-15 volunteers to assist the faculty. The volunteers will also assist the juniors and seniors with the purchase of items. The purpose of this is to teach our students to go through a day of an adult. To pay bills, balance a checkbook, etc. Please email or call Kara if you are interested in volunteering. Kara would like to set up a training session after Gala.

School- Head Reports:

Lower School: Mrs. Landenberger reported that ERB testing would be starting next week. This affects the 2-4th grades.

Watch for her newsletter for the Innisbrook program for next year.

Also, there is enough interest for next year’s pre-school program. There will be 2 sessions available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you have any other questions please contact Mrs. Landenberger.

The lower school will also be swimming for 2 more weeks. They are the last week in April and the first week in May.

Upper School: Mr. Harrell reported the musical. “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The students have been working very hard and it will be a great show. Come and support the students.

On Tuesday, Trooper Bell will be speaking to the Middle and Upper School students regarding Internet Safety.

There has been active interaction with the Lutheran Family Services and all is going extremely well.

The Speech Team is once again State Champs!!!!!

Middle School: Mr. Bicknell reported the first speech meet would be tomorrow night at Millard North.

Also, the ERB testing will be Monday-Wednesday and resume classes on Thursday. There is a change in schedule this year. Due to some feedback from last year the students will be testing in the morning and in the afternoon the students will be involved in various activities.

The Service Learning Project this year will be picking up the Key Stone Trail. It is about an 8-mile trail so therefore; each grade will be taking 2 miles to clean up the trail.

Also, a group called Respect Square will be presenting for the 5th-6th graders a dramatic presentation involves positive peer relationships. The 8th graders will be touring Creighton University and meeting with alumni of BT who are attending Creighton.

The Transition Meeting for 4th and 5th grade parents will be April 18, 2008.

French Market will be on April 25th.

For the 7th and 8th grade parents the Boys Town Presentation. The Parents Presentation will be Monday, April 28th and the Students Presentation will be Monday, May 1st.

Committee Reports:

Staff/Faulty Appreciation: Paula Smith reported that the event came under budget due to some very generous donations. She noted Susan Dennis and Suellen Willett. Also, there were some suggestions noted in her report.

Hy-Vee/Box Top: Karen Burkley reported we received $86.91 from Hy-Vee. She feels that Hy-Vee might be phasing this program out. The money for Box Top should be arriving soon.

Science Fair Café: Kathy Bartels thanked everyone who helped. They served over 300 pieces of pizza in less than half an hour.

Spring Book Fair: Julie Lasto reported the summer-required reading would be due April 11th.

Post-Prom Party and Freshman/Sophomore Prom Dinner: Pam Roth reported the 9th graders would be having dinner at Biagis, the 10th graders at OCC. Following dinner buses will be taking the students to Prom. After Prom the students again will board buses and be delivered to Papio Bowl for Post-Prom. The students will be able to bring a change of clothing for post-prom and leave it on the bus. The invitations will be arriving soon.

BTPA Spring Luncheon: Debbie Wood reported the invitations would be mailed out no later than Wednesday, May 14th. There is a change in time schedule due to the Mad City Money Simulation Event. The Social Hour will now be at 11:00 a.m. and lunch will follow at 12:00 p.m.

Family Fun Day: Charlotte Conner reported the event would be on Thursday, May 29th. She will be making phone calls and asking for volunteers.

Nominating Committee: Johanne Couture reported the Executive Committee for 2008-2009. It is a follows; Suellen Willett will be Treasurer, Debbie Wood will be Secretary, Jodi Taylor will be President-Elect and Susan Dennis will be President.

Announcements: The binders and reports are due at the next meeting. Please turn them into either Jane Hirz or in Ann Rinaldi’s office.

Next meeting will be Thursday, May 1, 2008.
