BT Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Throughout the summer, we notified families of new faculty and staff who are joining us this school year. Please take an opportunity at Back to School Night, Rise and Shine Donut Time, or during the first week of school to say hello to the new faces on the BT team.


Assistant Head of Academics Jason Smith
Jason comes to BT from GEMS World Academy in Dubai, where he served as the Deputy Head of School. Jason has 16 years of experience in education, having held several administration positions in Washington state and abroad. He also spent six years as a classroom teacher for second, third, and fourth grades.


History Department Chair and AP History Teacher Daniel Coffey
Daniel returns to to BT after 10 years at Omaha South High Magnet School where he was the dean of students, SAT coordinator, and freshman transition coordinator. Prior to his administrative roles, he taught Modern World History, Honors Economics, African-American History, and Media Literacy at Omaha South. He has a master's degree in education administration and a bachelor's degree in history and military science. Daniel taught at Brownell Talbot from 2001 to 2007 and is excited to wear Blue and Gold again!

Preschool Teacher Erin Jones
Erin has a master's degree in reading, a master's degree in administration and supervision, and a bachelor's degree in education with an endorsement in early childhood education. She has taught in the Council Bluffs School District for 12 years and has experience teaching kindergarten through fifth grade.

Junior Kindergarten Teacher Terry Nelson
Terry is returning to BT as a part-time junior kindergarten teacher due to the number of students who enrolled in our Early Childhood program this year! We appreciate her willingness to come out of retirement so soon in order to help fill this need!

Girls Golf Head Coach Ryan Norman
Coach Norman is a licensed PGA teaching professional and currently works at GolfTEC. He has coached high school golf and basketball at Duchesne Academy. Coach Norman is also an accomplished player and qualified for the PGA Professional National Championship in 2015.

Spanish Teacher Chad Schuttler
Chad joins the Brownell Talbot World Languages Department after serving as a Spanish teacher and department chair at Mount Michael Benedictine High School in Elkhorn. He also teaches as an adjunct professor at Metropolitan Community College. Mr. Schuttler has studied abroad in Spain and Mexico several times, most recently as part of the True Spanish Experience Program in Cuenca, Spain.

Third Grade Teacher Natalie (Amato) Simms
Natalie is returning to Brownell Talbot to teach third grade. Natalie has experience teaching in both independent and public schools and has taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. We are happy to welcome her back!

Second Grade Teacher Kathleen Wallace
Kathleen has a master's degree in literacy (K-12), a bachelor's degree with a focus in early childhood education, and 10 years of instructional experience. She spent the past three years living abroad and volunteering at her children's school. Before that, Kathleen was the literacy coach and interventionist for five years at Omaha's John G. Neihardt Elementary. She also has classroom experience as a second and third grade teacher.


System Administrator Ed Krueger
Ed comes to BT from Westside Community Schools where he served as a technology support technician for the past seven years.

Father Craig Loya
Father Loya is a current BT parent and the pastor at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, which is the cathedral for the Diocese of Nebraska. He has a master's degree in divinity from Yale University. He is also board president for Magdalene Omaha.

Executive Assistant to the Head of School Alyssa Owens
Alyssa is new to Omaha, having recently moved from Sterling, VA, where she worked as an agent services administrator with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty.

Aquatics Director and Varsity Swim Coach Jimmy Parmenter
Jimmy is an aquatics director, swim coach, and swimmer. He most recently served as the head coach of Plantation Swim Team in Plantation, Florida, where he oversaw the competitive and non-competitive swim programs. He is the USA Swimming Southern Zone Chairman and a member of the Florida Gold Coast Swimming Board of Directors. He is one of the most successful high school coaches in Florida history with a dual meet record of 224 wins and 4 losses. His teams have earned an impressive seven state championship titles. Jimmy attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage where he studied education and biology.

Director of Events Melissa Rider
Melissa joins BT from HDR, where she spent the past seven years as the lead event and logistics manager for their Strategic Communications group. Melissa has a master's degree in administrative leadership and will sit for her CMP (certified meeting professional) designation in November.

Director of Extended Care Annette Shannon-Falkner
Annette has a strong background in facilitating extended care programs for Omaha Public Schools. She spent the past nine years managing personnel and developing and implementing their after school curriculum.
